Childhood anxiety is a debilitating condition that has increased in children dramatically over the years. The pandemic has only added to the increase and intensified the need. Anxiety impacts home life, social life, school life and every aspect of a child’s being. Sleep is impaired, grades drop and hopelessness and helplessness can lead to despair.
This class will explore the signs and symptoms of childhood anxiety, the “red flags” teachers and parents should be aware of, and the struggles children with anxiety endure. Information will be presented on how educators need to react to students who display symptoms of anxiety and how to build a safe and supportive network. Each individual anxiety type will be explored highlighting symptoms, treatment and what educators can do to help the anxious child. Videos of professionals explaining this corrosive disorder will be presented along with videos of people who have experienced or are experiencing the condition.
Strategies, approaches, techniques and interventions will be discussed on how to remediate and support anxious children within the classroom setting and the home setting. Special note will be given to dealing with children who have experienced a traumatic event such as the pandemic.
