Welcome Summer: A Time to Renew, Refresh, Heal, Connect
Andrew Boddicker, founder of Walking Space, had his first long-distance walking experience on the Camino de Santiago – a 500-mile pilgrimage in Northern Spain. With this experience in hand, he spent the next four years planning to open a space where walking and nature are the main catalysts to adventure, healing, reconnection, and rejuvenation.
During Walking Space trips, Andrew facilitates and supports the walkers and other guides by taking care of all the things so you don’t have to! From food prep, to camp set up and take down, to meeting you on the trail with water and snacks – all details are considered so that you can take full advantage of the time you chose to take for yourself to rediscover, reinvent, and reconnect. As you ponder a walk, be sure to remember the possibilities, and not the limitations. We are here for you 100%. |

To say that this has been a couple of tough years in the field of education, is an understatement. Teaching has never been easy but with the added stress of the pandemic, virtual school, unpredictable school schedules and sometimes less than supportive state legislatures, some have chosen to leave.
"A staggering 55 percent of educators are thinking about leaving the profession earlier than they had planned, according to a National Education Association (NEA) survey of its members. This represents a significant increase from 37 percent in August and is true for educators regardless of age or years teaching, driving buses, or serving meals to students." NEA Today Tim Walker, Senior Writer Published: 02/01/2022 https://www.nea.org/advocating-for-change/new-from-nea/survey-alarming-number-educators-may-soon-leave-profession But how about those who decide to stay? Who want to stay? Who still love to teach? What can they do to ensure that summer brings the necessary refresh and relax time to prepare to another year? According to Suzanne Capek Tingley writing in How Teachers Can Make the Most of Summer Break there are some things that teachers can do to refuel. Get ready for next year Front load and prepare for back to school in August. Teachers can enjoy the weeks off when they know that, at the end, they are organized to begin a new year. Prepare the room, order repairs, order materials and appreciate the calm. Consider getting a job that is totally different from teaching Although some teachers teach summer school, other paint houses or are part of a wait staff at a restaurant. A change of pace can help recharge. Pay attention and schedule relaxation and self care Travel, take day trips, go to the zoo or just sit and read a book. Set up a spa day with friends or alone and soak in the quiet. Summer can be a time to slow down. Schedules tend to be more relaxed. Try yoga, cooking classes or getting a pet; expand and become immersed in something new and fun. Spend some time reflecting on the past year There are a lot of triumphs in a school year; celebrate them. Decide what worked and what didn't and don't hesitate to toss the "what didn't." We all know a good diet and exercise are part of self care It is easy to lose our way during the school year and eat way too much fast food and drink way too much coffee. Start a program of good nutrition and exercise and get in the groove for the more hectic times of the school year. Taking classes to pursue an advanced degree or to increase skills Classes give teachers an opportunity to connect with other professionals in the field and share and learn new ideas. You can't pour from an empty cup. Take time for yourself. Join us for a 1 hour class exploring the many dimensions of childhood mental health at your own pace.
